{"id":11452,"date":"2010-05-20T13:24:47","date_gmt":"2010-05-20T13:24:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/2010\/05\/20\/231056\/"},"modified":"2024-12-15T12:47:15","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T12:47:15","slug":"former-armenian-prime-minister-urges-government-to-take-swift-action-and-prevent-depreciation-of-euro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/en\/2010\/05\/20\/11452\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Armenian prime minister urges government to take swift action and prevent depreciation of euro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>YEREVAN, May 20, \/ARKA\/.<\/strong> A former Armenian prime minister urged today the government to take swift action and prevent the depreciation of Euro in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a news conference, Hrant Bagratian, who served as premier in the administration of Armenia\u2019s first post-Soviet president Levon Ter-Petrosian in early 1990-s, argued that the government must buy Euros and when the national currency, Dram, begins to lose its value again, to sell the hard currency to prevent Dram from further depreciation.<\/p>\n<p>He blamed the government for inactivity questioning again its policy designed to strengthen the Dram. \u201cNo one needs this, because in one-three months Dram will again start losing its value,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hrant Bagratian reminded that European Union accounts for 44% of Armenian imports. In his words, Euro\u2019s depreciation is very likely to increase Armenian imports from EU and kill entirely scanty Armenian exports to Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Bagratian claimed that by pursuing the current policy the government is seeking only to build an image of strengthening Dram being also reluctant to damage a handful of oligarchs\u2019 interest who control the entire imports.
