{"id":141451,"date":"2022-08-16T10:27:06","date_gmt":"2022-08-16T10:27:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/2022\/08\/16\/250491\/"},"modified":"2024-12-15T13:48:26","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T13:48:26","slug":"the-number-of-visa-and-mastercard-cards-issued-by-armenian-banks-rise-by-16-2-percent-in-april-and-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/en\/2022\/08\/16\/141451\/","title":{"rendered":"The number of Visa and MasterCard\u00a0cards\u00a0issued by Armenian banks rise by 16.2 percent in April and May"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>YEREVAN, August 16. \/ARKA\/.<\/strong> The number of Visa and MasterCard\u00a0banking\u00a0cards issued by Armenia-based commercial banks in April and May 2022 increased by 16.2% from the same months of 2021 to over 2 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the second quarter of 2021, the number of such cards increased by 5.11% as opposed to the first quarter of 2021, according to the findings of a study conducted by Russian RBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to experts, the number of such cards issued by banks in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Belarus, in April-June this year was the highest since at least 2018. Double-digit growth rates&nbsp;were&nbsp;recorded in Armenia and Tajikistan in May 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More and more such cards are being issued after Visa and MasterCard left Russia and their cards issued by Russian banks no longer accepted abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This has given rise to so-called &#8216;card tourism&#8217; when Russians travel to some of former Soviet republics to get Visa and MasterCard cards.
