{"id":21509,"date":"2011-04-04T10:42:58","date_gmt":"2011-04-04T10:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/2011\/04\/04\/232676\/"},"modified":"2024-12-15T12:50:43","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T12:50:43","slug":"independent-expert-questions-governments-pledge-to-bring-inflation-down-to-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/en\/2011\/04\/04\/21509\/","title":{"rendered":"Independent expert questions government\u2019s pledge to bring inflation down to 6%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>YEREVAN, April 4, \/ARKA\/.<\/strong> An independent economic expert Harutyun Mesrobian questioned today the Armenian government\u2019s pledge to bring inflation down to 6% by yearend saying the rise of commodities prices at global market\u00a0 and the staggering domestic agriculture will make it impossible.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at a news conference he said major trends will be determined by summer months and the agricultural yield,\u00a0 as well as by global commodity prices, especially those of fuel and basic foodstuffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Having in mind that Armenia is an importing country, any change in\u00a0 global prices will affect the inflation rate,\u2019 Mesrobian said, adding also that a drop in global prices will, however,\u00a0 have no downward impact on domestic prices.<\/p>\n<p>He added that monopolies continue to have a very negative impact on inflation rates and all these factors in view there is little ground to trust\u00a0 the government\u2019s assurances.<\/p>\n<p>According to the official data, in the first quarter of 2011 inflation rose by 5.2% and\u00a0 by 11.2% from a year earlier. In 2011 March inflation rose by 0.8% from February driven primarily by rise in prices of foods by 0.8% and services by 0.9%.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier prime minister Tigran Sarkisian said a set of measures initiated by the government and Central Bank would allow to bring prices down starting from mid summer.
