{"id":251493,"date":"2024-05-17T12:10:02","date_gmt":"2024-05-17T12:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/2024\/05\/17\/251493\/"},"modified":"2024-05-17T12:10:02","modified_gmt":"2024-05-17T12:10:02","slug":"ebrd-provides-10-million-to-armeconombank-to-boos-support-for-micro-small-and-medium-sized-businesses-in-armenia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/en\/2024\/05\/17\/251493\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD provides $10 million to Armeconombank to\u00a0\u00a0boos support for micro, small and medium-sized businesses in Armenia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>YEREVAN, May 17. \/ARKA\/. <\/strong>The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is boosting its support for micro, small and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) in\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/armenia.html\" target=\"_blank\">Armenia<\/a>\u00a0by extending new financing to Armeconombank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EBRD\u2019s loan of up to US$ 10 million (\u20ac9.2 million) will be provided in Armenian drams under the EBRD\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/what-we-do\/sectors-and-topics\/sme-local-currency-programmes.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SME Local Currency Programme<\/a>&nbsp;and is supported by a 12.5 per cent first-loss risk cover arrangement funded by the same programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Francis Malige, EBRD Managing Director for Financial Institutions, signed the agreement with Artak Arakelyan, CEO of Armeconombank, on the sidelines of the 33rd EBRD Annual Meeting and Business Forum, which is being held in Yerevan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EBRD funding will support Armeconombank\u2019s growth strategy, to diversify and expand its services in the MSME segment, focusing on regional clients. The loan will strengthen Armeconombank\u2019s funding base and enable the bank to meet growing demand for long-term local-currency financing for MSMEs. In addition, the project plans to promote economic inclusion by intending to allocate 50 per cent of the loan proceeds to on-lending to women-led businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specialising in MSME lending and with an extensive presence across the country, Armeconombank is a long-standing EBRD client. It successfully implemented a similar SME-focused project funded by a US$ 6 million EBRD loan back in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This project is in line with the Bank\u2019s strategic priority in Armenia to develop the financial sector and improve access to finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EBRD is a leading institutional investor in Armenia, investing around \u20ac2.12 billion through 211 projects in the country to date.
