YEREVAN, August 25. \/ARKA\/.<\/strong> The total volume of investments by Armenian commercial banks in securities as of the end of June 2026 amounted to 1,922,826,829 thousand drams.This is according to the ARKA news agency’s bulletin “Performance Indicators of Armenian Banks. Second Quarter of 2026,” compiled based on Armenian banks’ reports published in accordance with international IFRS standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compared to the end of March, the volume of investments decreased by 280.1 billion drams, or 12.7%. Since the beginning of the year, the figure has decreased by 202.5 billion drams, or 9.5%. The share of investments in securities in the banking system’s total assets at the end of June was 13.9%, and in income-earning assets, 12.99%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Portfolio Structure by Securities Type<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bulk of banks’ investments were in government securities\u2014AMD 1.74 trillion, or 90.67% of the total portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investments in non-government securities amounted to AMD 181.93 billion, with a share of 9.46%. Provisions for possible impairment reached AMD 2.55 billion, or 0.13% of the portfolio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking into account the provisions, the banks’ total securities portfolio amounted to AMD 1,922,758,908 thousand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Portfolio Structure by Investment Objective<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The bulk of the portfolio consisted of securities held to maturity. The volume of such investments amounted to 1.26 trillion drams, or 65.53% of the total. Of this, 790.5 billion drams were in government bonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The volume of securities intended for sale amounted to 624.15 billion drams, or 32.46% of the portfolio. Within this structure, investments in government bonds reached 531.69 billion drams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Banks’ investments in securities for commercial purposes amounted to 38.72 billion drams, or 2.01% of the total portfolio. Of this, 21.63 billion drams were in government bonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total volume of banks’ investments in government bonds amounted to 1.344 trillion drams, or approximately 69.9% of the entire securities portfolio. Their share of total banking system assets reached 9.71%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Banking System Leaders<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ardshinbank held the largest securities portfolio at the end of June, with AMD 306.45 billion. The bank accounted for 15.94% of the banking system’s total securities investments. Ardshinbank’s portfolio decreased by 40.4% in the second quarter and by 29.9% year-to-date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AMIO Bank was second with a portfolio of AMD 259.92 billion, accounting for 13.52%. This figure decreased by 4.6% over the quarter, while it has grown by 7.2% year-to-date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ameriabank also made the top three, with AMD 210.07 billion, or 10.92% of the total portfolio. Its investments decreased by 0.84% \u200b\u200bover the quarter and by 17.26% year-to-date. Next came Inecobank with a portfolio of 175.1 billion drams and ArmSwissBank with 172.08 billion drams. Their shares of the total banking system portfolio amounted to 9.11% and 8.95%, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bank Dynamics<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fast Bank demonstrated the highest growth in securities investments in the second quarter, up 70.53% to 38.76 billion drams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armeconombank’s investments increased by 5.51% to 103.16 billion drams, Unibank’s by 5.39% to 26.43 billion drams, and IDBank’s by approximately 1% to 54.45 billion drams. After Ardshinbank, Converse Bank saw the most significant quarterly declines, down 21.36% to AMD 101.1 billion, Araratbank down 13.77% to AMD 57.6 billion, VTB Bank (Armenia) down 11.81% to AMD 22.7 billion, and Evocabank down 10.28% to AMD 93.3 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of June 30, 2026, there were 17 commercial banks operating in Armenia. The average investment in securities per bank was AMD 113.1 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
