The average interest rate on short-term loans in Armenian national currency, the dram, provided by local banks in March dropped by 1.3 percentage point from a year before to 17%, according to a statement posted on the official website of the Central bank of Armenia.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the average interest rate on short-term loans in foreign and Armenian currencies decreased compared to March 2011 by 1.6 percentage points to 15.5%. At the same time, the average interest rate on short-dram saving deposits in Armenian drams grew by 0.1 percentage point to 8.6%.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the average\u00a0 interest rates on short-term savings deposits in foreign and local currencies dropped by 0.3 percentage points from 2011 March to 7%. There are 21 banks in Armenia.
