TSAKHKADZOR, June 26. \/ARKA\/.<\/strong> During a seminar today in Armenia\u2019s resort town of Tsakhkadzor Ameria group of companies presented the findings of a study designed to monitor the services of Armenian courts. It was funded by the World Bank and implemented at the order of the Office of Implementation of\u00a0 Judicial and Legal Programs of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the project is to help introduce a system to monitor Armenian courts in order to help them improve their\u00a0 efficiency,\u00a0 ensure r transparency, accountability and accessibility of legal\u00a0 information that will in turn enhance public confidence in the judiciary.<\/p>\n

“Ameria” has developed a methodology for monitoring of courts that will serve as a basis for future monitoring. It was developed by taking into account the specifics of Armenia\u2019s judicial system and international experience,” David Sarkisian, head of Ameria\u2019s department in charge of legal practices, said. He said\u00a0 the monitoring reviewed the courts not only as justice bodies, but also as a services providing system.<\/p>\n

“That was why our focus was on the availability of courts\u00a0 to\u00a0 citizens and\u00a0 journalists in terms of\u00a0 comfort and liveability of buildings, possible delays of hearings\u00a0 and so on,”\u00a0 he said.<\/p>\n

Sarkisian\u00a0 said that the project was initiated by the government\u00a0 as part of judicial reforms, and the results will be submitted to\u00a0 appropriate government\u00a0 agencies.<\/p>\n
