{"id":62207,"date":"2013-09-23T11:31:06","date_gmt":"2013-09-23T11:31:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/2013\/09\/23\/239395\/"},"modified":"2024-12-15T13:07:06","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T13:07:06","slug":"moodys-investors-service-lowers-its-foreign-currency-bond-ceiling-on-armenia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/en\/2013\/09\/23\/62207\/","title":{"rendered":"Moody&#8217;s investors service lowers its foreign-currency bond ceiling on Armenia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>YEREVAN, September 23, \/ARKA\/<\/strong> Moody&#8217;s Investors Service lowered its foreign-currency bond ceiling on Armenia, citing the country&#8217;s low institutional strength and limited financial and trade openness.<\/p>\n<p>Now the highest rating that can be assigned to a domestic issuer in foreign currency in Armenia is Ba1, down from Baa3, the ratings firm said.<\/p>\n<p>Moody&#8217;s said its foreign-currency bond ceiling assesses the probability that a defaulting government would adopt a moratorium on foreign-currency debt repayments of domestic issuers.<\/p>\n<p>The move comes a day after Armenia sold its first $750 million dollar bond, seven-year bond to price at a yield of 6.25%, attracting $3.25 billion in orders.<\/p>\n<p>Moody&#8217;s said it would likely reassess Armenia&#8217;s bond ceilings if the country&#8217;s debt rating were to change.<br \/>\nMoody&#8217;s in August raised its outlook on Armenia&#8217;s junk-level ratings to stable, citing the nation&#8217;s efforts to cut deficits as well as its continued access to external funding sources on favorable terms.
