{"id":8092,"date":"2010-02-23T17:24:54","date_gmt":"2010-02-23T17:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/2010\/02\/23\/230677\/"},"modified":"2024-12-15T12:46:25","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T12:46:25","slug":"armenian-central-bank-intends-to-curb-dollarization-in-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/en\/2010\/02\/23\/8092\/","title":{"rendered":"Armenian Central Bank intends to curb dollarization in 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>YEREVAN, February 23. \/ARKA\/.<\/strong> The Central Bank of Armenia will concentrate its efforts on curbing dollarization in 2010, Vahe Vardanyan, chief of the central bank\u2019s division on financial stability, said Saturday at the round-table discussion held in Tsakhkadzor, Armenia, as part of Bridge-2010 economic forum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have worked out a program, which will be implemented in cooperation with the government. The aim of this program is to prevent purchase\/sale deals in dollars,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Vardanyan said that in 2009 the central bank\u2019s attention was focused rather on financial than price stability, but this year stability of prices will be among the central bank\u2019s top-priority objectives.<\/p>\n<p>According to National Statistical Service, consumer prices rose 6.5% in December 2009, compared with the same month a year before.<\/p>\n<p>Inflation was planned at 4% (\u00b11.5%) in the 2009 state budget.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, it doesn\u2019t mean that the central bank will stop paying attention to financial stability,\u201d Vardanyan added.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the banking system has problem with running assets and liabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe population has immense savings in foreign currencies \u2013 about 78% of deposits are in dollars, while demand for loans in drams dominates assets.
