{"id":81713,"date":"2014-11-24T14:57:50","date_gmt":"2014-11-24T14:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/2014\/11\/24\/241825\/"},"modified":"2024-12-15T13:14:37","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T13:14:37","slug":"central-bank-responds-to-sharp-depreciation-of-national-currency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/en\/2014\/11\/24\/81713\/","title":{"rendered":"Central Bank responds to sharp depreciation of national currency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>YEREVAN, November 24. \/ ARKA \/.<\/strong> In response to a sharp depreciation of the national currency, the dram, against the USD and euro Armenia\u2019s Central Bank said in a statement today that the exchange rate \u2018is in the stabilization zone.<\/p>\n<p>The greenback\u2019s value has grown today at the local forex market by 16.6 points from November 21 to 435 drams, the highest rate this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Central Bank statement, the drop in dram\u2019s value \u2018is dictated by the latest developments\u00a0 at\u00a0 regional and international financial markets, promoting export competitiveness, economic growth, creating new steady jobs and increasing the purchasing power of remittances sent to Armenia from abroad.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After consulting with all the participants of the financial market the Central Bank estimates that the current exchange rate of the dram reflects in full the ongoing developments and is within\u00a0 the zone of stabilization,\u201d the statement says.<\/p>\n<p>The regulator says also its reserves are fully sufficient to prevent any artificial fluctuations of the exchange rate and to ensure financial stability.<\/p>\n<p>Armenia\u2019s national currency began to lose its value in late October. To shore up the dram the Central Bank sold $ 60.7 million in the last three weeks.
