{"id":83053,"date":"2014-12-22T16:37:27","date_gmt":"2014-12-22T16:37:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/2014\/12\/22\/242124\/"},"modified":"2024-12-15T13:15:34","modified_gmt":"2024-12-15T13:15:34","slug":"armenian-currencys-behaviour-depends-on-several-factors-edb-study-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/armbanks.am\/en\/2014\/12\/22\/83053\/","title":{"rendered":"Armenian currency\u2019s behaviour depends on several factors- EDB study says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>YEREVAN, December 22. \/ ARKA \/.<\/strong> According to the December issue of &#8220;CIS Macro-monitor&#8221; of the Research Department of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), the behavior of Armenia\u2019s national currency, dram, continues to depend largely on the situation in international markets, including the behavior of the Russian ruble, and on what kind of a monetary policy the Central Bank of Armenia will pursue.<\/p>\n<p>The study says that the deterioration of the balance of payments in October and\u00a0 November 2014 against the background of high level of short-term payments on foreign liabilities contributed to reduction of Armenia&#8217;s international reserves by $133.3 million in one month to $1.53 billion in late November,\u00a0\u00a0 as well as to formation of pressure on the dram.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In this context, the strengthening of the dollar against the euro and the currencies of many emerging markets\u00a0 as well as the devaluation of the ruble further increased the pressure on Armenia\u2019s\u00a0 national currency&#8221;, according to the study.<\/p>\n<p>Armenian dram began losing its value on November 24. On December 17 its official exchange rate fell to record low over\u00a0 the last 10 years to 527.20 drams per one USD.
