Business, Banks, and Investment: Biodiversity Financing to be Discussed at COP17 in Yerevan

YEREVAN, October 19. /ARKA/. A “Business and Biodiversity Forum” will be held in Yerevan as part of COP17, focusing on the private sector’s role in achieving international biodiversity conservation goals.

According to the official website of the Secretariat of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, the forum will take place on October 25 within the “Blue Zone” of COP17.

The event will center on collaboration between governments, companies, and financial institutions to accelerate the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which was adopted in 2022.

Participants will examine practical approaches to integrating biodiversity conservation into corporate strategies, investment decisions, and supply chains.

Special attention will be given to the conditions necessary to expand business participation in conservation efforts, as well as to overcoming obstacles that hinder the fulfillment of international biodiversity commitments.

Biodiversity Financing

One of the objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework is to mobilize at least $200 billion annually from all sources by 2030 for activities related to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.

The document also calls for an increase in international financial flows to developing countries for these purposes, reaching $30 billion annually by 2030.

The mobilization of financial resources and the engagement of the private sector are key components in the implementation of this global framework.
