YEREVAN, February 4, /ARKA/. A total of $54.8 million (an equivalent of 20.7 billion Drams) was traded in 2010 January at NASDAQ OMX Armenia exchange. According to an analysis by ARKA, based on the reports by the exchange, the figure represents a 63% decline if compared to 2009 December. In terms of money the decline amounted to $93.2 million or 35.2 billion Drams.

The number of transaction in 2001 January dropped by 854 from December, 2009 to 466. The decline is explained partly by the fact that the exchange resumed trading only on January 11 after protracted New year holidays.

The largest trading of $18.5 million was reported on January 11 and the lowest of $600,000 on January 29. No deals with Euors were effected in January.

NASDAQ OMX Armenia is the new name of the Armenian Stock Exchange ojsc (renamed on January 27, 2009), however, it is also used to refer jointly to the stock exchange and the Central depository of Armenia ojsc (CDA), as the both companies have been members of the NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. since early 2008.

NASDAQ OMX Armenia and the CDA are the major securities market infrastructure institutions in Armenia. Since their inception in 2000, both companies had operated as self-regulatory organizations established by member broker companies, up until demutualization in 2007.–0–
