Money scam: Central Bank warns of cases of fraud purporting to be carried out in its name

YEREVAN, March 3. /ARKA/. The Central Bank of Armenia has warned of cases of fraud in which criminals pose as regulator employees and urge citizens to transfer funds to other accounts.

“Recently, fraudsters have been sending citizens fake letters and making phone calls purporting to be the Central Bank, with the aim of scamming clients. We emphasize that the Central Bank never makes such calls or mailings and does not provide banking services to individuals,” the regulator said in a statement.

The Central Bank urged citizens not to take any action in the event of such requests, not to disclose personal or banking information to anyone, and to immediately contact their bank.

The regulator also published examples of forged documents used by fraudsters posing as Central Bank employees.
