YEREVAN, September 11. /ARКА/. The Central Bank of Armenia adheres to the “same risk, same regulation” principle when regulating digital and virtual assets, Central Bank Deputy Chairman Hovhannes Khachatryan stated on Friday at the 4Future Banking forum in Yerevan.
According to him, the Central Bank strives to regulate rapidly changing sectors based on general risk control principles.
Khachatryan noted that this approach applies, in particular, to issuance, exchanges, and other services related to crypto assets.
Regulation and Risks
The Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank noted that the regulator has received criticism due to the fact that regulation can sometimes hinder innovation.
At the same time, he noted that risks associated with the capital adequacy of large financial institutions, operational risks, and cybersecurity risks could undermine the financial system and, consequently, innovation.
Khachatryan also emphasized the importance of a stable macroeconomic environment and the control of operational and cybersecurity risks within companies.
