YEREVAN, September 14. /ARKA/. Thanks to significant remittance and capital inflows, gross reserves in Armenia rose to a record $6.5 billion in August, equivalent to 4.3 months of import coverage, according to the World Bank’s Armenia “Monthly Economic Update – September 2026.”
“Net non-commercial remittances increased by 40% year-on-year in July from a low base, primarily due to continued inflows from Russia (up 37.3% year-on-year) and continued inflows of Russians to Armenia,” the study states.
World Bank analysts note that these significant inflows contributed to the strengthening of the dram: in August, the Armenian dram strengthened by 0.4% against the US dollar compared to the previous month and by 1.1% against the euro compared to the previous month, and was 4.6% stronger against the US dollar compared to August 2025, although it weakened by 8.6% year-on-year against the Russian ruble.
The net inflow of cross-border remittances to individuals in Armenia, received from abroad through the Armenian banking system, amounted to $1.56 billion in January-July 2026, compared to $716.6 million in January-July 2025. Moreover, in July alone, the net inflow of remittances amounted to $179.1 million, compared to $129 million in July last year.
