USD transactions at NASDAQ OMX Armenia advance 15.9% to $55.3 mln in March

YEREVAN, April 4. /ARKA/. The cumulative trading volume in U.S. dollars at NASDAQ OMX Armenia stock exchange in March of this year climbed 15.9% or about $7.6 million from February to nearly $55.3 million or over 21.5 billion drams (in Armenian dram equivalent), according to an analysis made by ARKA.

The total number of transactions in March increased by 30.4% from a month earlier to 438. The maximum transaction volume was reported on March 7, when nearly $9.6 million was traded, and the minimum- on March 2 ($650,000). Within the reported period no transactions in euro were made.

Open JSC NASDAQ OMX Armenia (operating as Open JSC “Armenian stock market” till January 27, 2009) was established in 2001 as a self-regulatory organization on the basis of volunteer unification of 21 dealer companies. At the beginning of November 2007 the stock exchange was re-organized into open joint stock company. Since November 7, 2008 the company ОМХ (currently NASDAQ OMX) is 100% shareholder in NASDAQ OMX Armenia stock market. On June 5, 2009 the stock exchange became a 100% shareholder of Central Depository of Armenia.

License for organization of auctions on purchase-sale of currency was provided to NASDAQ OMX Armenia stock exchange by CBA on November 7, 2005. Auctions in the currency platform started officially on November 15, 2005.

An average weighted USD exchange rate on transactions at NASDAQ OMX Armenia is said to be 389.27 drams per $ in February. ($1 – 391.47 drams).–0–
