YEREVAN, October 30. /ARKA/. At COP17, Acba Bank participated in a panel discussion organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) dedicated to the future of sustainable agriculture, long-term investments, and the need for environmentally responsible financing solutions.
During the discussion, Acba Bank’s experience, which has been a leader in financing Armenia’s agricultural sector for nearly 30 years, was highlighted. This year, the bank also published its first sustainability report, which focuses on the long-term and sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
“We have been involved in agricultural financing for many years, and sustainable agriculture has always been at the forefront of our attention. Acba was one of the first to publish a sustainability report this year, demonstrating that our strategy places special emphasis on long-term sustainable development. “Acba Bank, in collaboration with the government and international partners, is promoting the modernization of the industry and its sustainable financing. Government subsidy programs, stimulating the adoption of new technologies, also play a key role,” notes Acba Bank’s Director of SME and Corporate Business, Hakob Hakobyan.
“The topic of today’s discussion is extremely important: agriculture depends on healthy ecosystems, soil, and water, but is also one of the sectors that puts pressure on biodiversity. The transition to regenerative agriculture requires science, financing, and local support. In any case, this transition will not be easy or quick,” notes Anud Alouzi, Principal Environmental Finance and Policy Specialist at the EBRD.
“To reduce risks for farmers and encourage environmentally responsible practices, insurance solutions are being developed that help reconcile environmental conservation and financial sustainability,” notes Marika Rüther, Head of Sustainability Strategy at AXA Group.
