Ameria presents findings of court services monitoring

TSAKHKADZOR, June 26. /ARKA/. During a seminar today in Armenia’s resort town of Tsakhkadzor Ameria group of companies presented the findings of a study designed to monitor the services of Armenian courts. It was funded by the World Bank and implemented at the order of the Office of Implementation of  Judicial and Legal Programs of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia.

The purpose of the project is to help introduce a system to monitor Armenian courts in order to help them improve their  efficiency,  ensure r transparency, accountability and accessibility of legal  information that will in turn enhance public confidence in the judiciary.

“Ameria” has developed a methodology for monitoring of courts that will serve as a basis for future monitoring. It was developed by taking into account the specifics of Armenia’s judicial system and international experience,” David Sarkisian, head of Ameria’s department in charge of legal practices, said. He said  the monitoring reviewed the courts not only as justice bodies, but also as a services providing system.

“That was why our focus was on the availability of courts  to  citizens and  journalists in terms of  comfort and liveability of buildings, possible delays of hearings  and so on,”  he said.

Sarkisian  said that the project was initiated by the government  as part of judicial reforms, and the results will be submitted to  appropriate government  agencies.
