ADB expects inflation in Armenia to grow 4.6% in 2015

YEREVAN, March 25. /ARKA/. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) expects inflation in Armenia to grow to 4.6% in 2015 and drop to 4.1% in 2016, says the Asian Development Outlook.

The previous projection suggested 4% inflation in Armenia for 2015.

Under natural circumstances, inflationary pressures will substantially grow in 2015 due to weak Armenian dram affected by the ruble devaluation and the need for tariff harmonization in the EEU, says the report.

According to ADB experts, the monetary and credit policies will remain tough in the short term to tackle these pressures, and will then end up in a neutral position in the mid-term.

Armenia’s National Statistical Service says average annual inflation was 3% in 2014 and 4.8% in January-February 2015.

The country’s budget aims at 4.1% GDP growth and 4% (±1.5%) inflation in 2015. –0–
