Interest spread at Armenia’s commercial banks 4.72% in February

YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. Interest spread at Armenia’s commercial banks has narrowed by 0.59 percentage points since the beginning of this year to 4.72% in late February, but widened by 0.01 p. p., compared with late January, the National Statistical Service of Armenia reports.

Interest spread (difference between interest rates on loans and deposits) is one of the most important indicators for rating one or another country’s banking sector.

A high spread shows system risks – it means that banks are not able to estimate credit risks adequately.
According to the National Statistical Service, loan interests averaged 18.71% in Armenia in February against 16.77% in January, and deposits interests 13.99% against 12.06% respectively. –0–
