Armenian citizens’ bills for online purchases grew by 25% in 2016

YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. Armenian users’ bills for online purchases in 2016 surged by 25% from the previous year, while the number of payments increased by almost 50%, according to a study by Yandex. Money.

However, the average bill of an Armenian online buyer decreased from 3,342 drams to 2,820 drams (at the rate of the Central Bank of Russia on 01.31.2017). Over the twelve months, each user paid on average for 9 online purchases worth 25,334 drams – about 15% less than in 2015.

In 2016, the bulk of purchases were made by residents of Yerevan, Gyumri, Hrazdan and Abovyan. Compared with 2015 the number of payments for online purchases in Hrazdan and Abovyan grew by 150%, while in Gyumri they decreased by more than 15%.

Residents of Yerevan and Hrazdan paid the largest average bill for a single purchase – 8,803 and 7,507 drams respectively. In Gyumri users spent 4,931 drams on a single purchase.

In 2016, most of payments were made for online games, cellular communication, paid options in social networks, and orders from online stores. Armenian Internet users also donated money to various charities.

Compared with 2015 the number of online purchases doubled. The amount of payments for online games increased by 1.8 times, for mobile communication – by more than 15%, while the number of payments for the paid options in social networks fell by about 5%. The number of online donations grew by 4.6 times.

From online store Armenian users bought more often clothes and shoes, books, household goods, car accessories. The number of clothing orders increased 3.7 times, the number of purchases of cosmetics and perfumes, as well as products for health grew by 7 times in each category. As for consumer electronics it was not in great demand- the number of payments decreased by almost half.

The study is based on the payments made by residents of Armenia through Yandex. Money in 2016 and 2015. -0-
