Armenian central bank announces tender for printing of composite banknotes

YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Central Bank has announced a tender for printing composite banknotes, the bank’s press service reported. It described composite banknotes as more durable with higher multi-stage security features.

Earlier a senior official of the Central Bank, Mher Abrahamyan, said that the regulator was considering the possibility of switching from paper banknotes to plastic or hybrid banknotes. He noted that new types of banknotes have two advantages: the degree of their protection is much higher than that of paper analogues, and their life is longer than paper banknotes.

According to Abrahamyan, the process of transition to new banknotes will be carried out gradually by successively replacing the paper money in circulation. -0-
