Illustrated children’s “Encyclopedia of Money” presented at Central Bank of Armenia

YEREVAN, December 21. /ARKA/.  The “Encyclopedia of Money,” an Armenian-language edition, adapted for children, was presented today at the Central Bank of Armenia.

Thanks to the encyclopedia, the children will be able to get general knowledge about what money is, how to manage it competently, how to earn money and spend it wisely.  

During the presentation, Director of Haybook Publishing House Loris Vardanyan said that the encyclopedia has chapters that are useful not only for children, but also for adults. He noted that the encyclopedia has been published in 3,000 copies and is already available in bookstores in Yerevan and regions of Armenia for 5,900 drams (about $14.5).  Vardanyan emphasized that there is a special discount for schools and libraries.  

The encyclopedia was translated from the English version published by the “Dorling Kindersley” publishing house. The author of the book, called ‘Get To Know: Money’ is Kalpana Fitzpatrick, an award-winning journalist with extensive experience in financial journalism. A team of editors, designers and artists were also involved in the creation of the book.

A child reading this book will be introduced to financial topics such as managing pocket money wisely, planning goals and finances, saving and investing, learning how to recognize and avoid scams, etc.

About financial literacy

Since 2008, the Central Bank of Armenia, together with its partners, has been implementing a financial education program aimed at increasing the level of financial literacy of the population.

During the presentation of the encyclopedia, Hasmik Ghahramanyan, a member of the Central Bank Board, said that in 2014, the level of financial literacy of the population was 44.5%. After the implementation of the program in 2019, the level increased by 2.3% and reached 46.8%.  

“With the current program, we plan to bring this indicator to 50% by 2025,” Ghahramanyan said. According to her, the encyclopedia among other tools will help achieve this result. -0-
