Talk about collapse of euro zone irrelevant: Hristea

YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. Speculation about the impending collapse of the euro zone economy is not grounded, head of EU delegation to Armenia, Trajan Hristea, said Saturday at the opening of the 9th International Economic Forum “Bridge” in the Armenian town of Tsakhkadzor.

“Speculation that the EU is moving towards collapse is the result of lack of information” he said, citing as an example the rumors about the instability of the euro.

“This talk is not backed by logical basis, as today the euro exchange rate is the same as five years ago,” he said.

Hristea reported that the highest exchange rate of euro against US dollar was in 2008 when it was traded at USD 1.67, and lowest in 2010 when one euro was worth 1.20 USD).

“But at that time no one talked about the European currency’s instability. For some reason now, when the stability of the euro is obvious, everyone is talking about the economic collapse of the EU. Of course, I do not deny that the eurozone is facing challenges because of the situation in Greece, but the problem in Greece is already half solved, and other EU countries such as Germany and the Netherlands have the low rate of unemployment,” he said.

Hristea said a bright future is predetermined for the European Union. -0-
