EBRD initiates a solid waste management seminar in Armenia

YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. The European bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is holding a solid waste management seminar in Tsakhkadzor on September 11-12, the bank’s press office reported.

The seminar will kick off 10:00 on Thursday September 11 in Golden Palace hotel in Tsakhkadzor. Armenia’s deputy minister of territorial administration Artashes Bakhshyan will deliver a welcoming speech at the opening.

Some sixty experts from eight countries, including Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia and Tajikistan are invited to participate in the seminar and exchange their experience in solid waste management. Factors contributing to success of similar programs in the region will be discussed.
EBRD programs facilitate investments in construction and maintenance of sanitary dumpsites, closing-down of old test sites, delivery of equipment and utilization tools for companies engaged in solid waste management.

The seminar will provide a unique opportunity to use the best existing practices in current and future programs and to establish ties with partners in different countries.

The EBRD is considering possibility of implementation of two projects – one in Kotayk region of Armenia and the other in Yerevan. The aim is to provide funding for construction of dumpsite complying with EU requirements and development of the respective infrastructures. This is one of EBRD’s obligations in Armenia and the aim is to ensure modernized municipal infrastructures in the country, says the report.
