Investments of Armenia’s commercial banks in securities increased 70.7% in 1st Q 2017

YEREVAN, May 16. /ARKA/. Investments of Armenia’s commercial banks in securities grew 70.7% in the first quarter of 2017, compared with the same quarter a year before, according to a fresh issue of ARKA News Agency’s ‘Bans of Armenia’ Bulletin.

Since the beginning of this year, the bank’s investments in securities have grown 0.85% to AMD 463.8 billion by late March.

Investments make up 11.3% of the banks’ aggregate assets.

Investments in government bonds amounted to AMD 430.5 billion and made up 92.8% of the investments in securities in late March.

The biggest investors in securities among Armenia’s commercial banks are ArmSwissbank, Ameriabank, Ardshinbank, Armbusinessbank and Anelik Bank.

The top five banks’ investments in securities in the first half of 2016 totaled AMD 211.8 billion and made up 45.6% of the aggregate investments of the country’s banks.

ArmSwissbank’s investments in securities amounted to AMD 62.8 billion in late March and their share in the total amount of the country banks’ investments in securities was 44.67% – 1.46 percent more than in the beginning of the year.

ArmSwissbank, along with classic bank services, also provides investment services and act as an underwriter or market maker.

Ameriabank’s investments in securities amounted to AMD 45.4 billion (6.5% decline), Ardshinbank’s investments to AMD 38.7 billion (9.3% decline), Armbusinessbank’s to AMD 33.2 billion (7.2% decline) and Anelik Bank’s to AMD 31.5 billion (64.9% growth).

Commercial banks’ aggregate have shrunk 0.002 percent since the beginning of the year to AMD 4 093.1 billion by late March.
