Entry of foreign citizens into Armenia through border checkpoints prohibited

YEREVAN, April 7. /ARKA/. The entry of foreign citizens into Armenia through border checkpoints is prohibited regardless of the country of arrival, the press service of the Armenian foreign ministry reported on Tuesday.

“On April 3, the Armenian government made some changes in its decision on imposing a state of emergency, which prohibit foreigners from crossing border checkpoints to Armenia regardless of the place of arrival. The changes were introduced taking into account the fact that the geographical distribution of coronavirus infection is no longer limited to countries with a tense epidemiological situation and covers almost all countries (territories) of the world,” the report said.

It is said that according to the decision mentioned above, any person who is not a citizen of Armenia or a family member, as well as a person who does not have the right to reside in the country’s territory, is prohibited from entering the country through a checkpoint.

“The exception is the diplomatic representatives of foreign states, representatives of consular offices and international organizations, as well as members of their families, as well as persons who have received from the commandant’s headquarters either the right to enter or special permission,” the statement said.

The ministry recalls that individuals are subjected to a special examination at the checkpoint immediately upon entering the country’s territory in order to detect the presence of the virus or symptoms. After passing the appropriate examination, all persons are subject to mandatory self-isolation if hospitalization and / or other restrictive measures are not applied to the latter due to the presence of symptoms.

It is also indicated that in order to prevent the spread of coronvirus, individuals who refuse medical examination, hospitalization, isolation and other restrictive measures, may have their right to free movement limited.

A state of emergency in order to suppress the spread of coronavirus operates in Armenia from March 16 to April 14. Restrictions on free movement and certain types of economic activity in Armenia in a state of emergency (initially imposed for the period from March 24 to March 31) were extended until April 12 inclusive.

As of April 7, in Armenia, 853 confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded, 87 patients were cured, eight people died. -0-
