Armenian prices drop by 0.2% in September, 2020

YEREVAN, October 27. /ARKA/ Armenian prices in September 2020 dropped by 0.2%, the chairman of the Central Bank Martin Galstyan said today, adding that in 2019 September the price index saw 0.2% inflation.

He said the 12-month inflation in 2020 September was 1.4%, while the 12-month natural inflation slightly increased to 1.3%.

“Despite some positive shifts in the global economy in the third quarter, the recovery in global demand and economic activity will be somewhat delayed due to the anticipated new wave of coronavirus in September-October and the associated high uncertainty,” Galstyan said.

He also noted that a weak inflationary environment persists in some commodity markets. According to Galstyan, this in view the central banks in Armenia’s major partner countries continue to pursue a stimulating monetary policy. He added that no external influence on the inflationary environment in Armenia is expected.

According to him, taking into account all the facts, the anticipated macroeconomic changes, including a slight increase in risks, the Central Bank Council decided to leave the refinancing rate unchanged at 4.25%. -0-
