Success of the family business based in Tavush: from a home to a guesthouse and a small winery

YEREVAN, November 21, /ARKA/. The nature of Tavush and warm family welcome are the business cards of Berkri guesthouse in Yenokavan; numerous guests from all around the world come here.

The son of the Avetisyan family – Davit, decided to make their home a guesthouse. In 2018, he started the construction, added rooms, built an open café and made the house an enjoyable place for guests. The whole family works here; everyone has their contribution and role.

For the 4th year, Davit has been mastering winery; Berkri wines will soon be available for sale in specialized shops. He first shows the wine cellar to the guests, tells the story of wine, the preparation method, and at last, organizes a degustation. 

Berkri is one of the beneficiaries of “Agricultural tourism development program” organized by Acba Bank and Germany’s Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU). Through the provided grant, the family opened a bakery, renovated the bought new furniture and started the hustle and bustle of the work.

“When our friends and relatives were visiting Armenia, or just our region, they always ate in our house; they stayed in our house in groups of 10-20 people. They said – your food is good, you are very welcoming. That is when we decided to build a family business. There was a time when we had to add several rooms, we had two and we needed two more, but we didn’t have the funds. We received support from Acba Federation, added a bakery filled with the culture of Tavush, where we now hold master classes, and furnished everything. Thanks to the investments we were able to double our finances”, noted Davit Avetisyan.   

Berkri also organizes flatbread baking, tapestry and carpet weaving master classes, excursions and walks to local historical and cultural places for guests.

Berkri guest house is located in Yenokavan village, Tavush region.
