Government debt-to-GDP ratio in Armenia will be 53 per cent in 2025 – Central Bank head

YEREVAN, 12 November. /ARKA/. The ratio of the Armenian government’s debt to GDP in 2025 is expected to grow by 3.2 p.p. compared to the previous year and amount to 53%, said today the head of the Central Bank Martin Galstyan.

‘Along with the reduction of the budget deficit, the debt growth rate will decrease in the medium term, and the government’s debt-to-GDP ratio will stabilise around the 54.6%,’ he said in parliament on during the presentation of Armenia’s 2025 draft budget.

In this regard, Galstyan attached importance to the consistency of fiscal policy aimed at neutralising medium-term debt stability risks.

He also noted that in 2025, the attraction of funds from external sources to finance the deficit and especially the capex will continue, as well as the gradual increase in the national currency and domestic debts.

‘From the point of view of the government’s debt stability policy, we consider it important to emphasise the implementation of public spending at the expense of own funds,’ he said.

According to the National Statistics Committee, Armenia’s total state debt as of 30 September 2024 stood at $12.5 billion, with $6.29 billion in external debt and $6.20 billion in domestic debt. -0-
