Central Bank of Armenia warns about scammers contacting citizens in its name

YEREVAN, December 3. /ARКА/. The Central Bank of Armenia has alerted the public about fraudulent communications, including calls and messages, that are being sent under its name.

The press service of the regulator indicated that their monitoring efforts have uncovered recent fraudulent activities where scammers have pretended to be representatives of the Central Bank in order to extort money from clients. They have utilized fake letters and phone calls to convince individuals to transfer funds to different accounts.

“We would like to inform you that the Central Bank of Armenia does not make such statements or calls, does not send messages, and does not offer banking services to individuals,” the statement asserts.

“If you receive a call or any form of contact from someone claiming to represent the Central Bank and requesting or demanding that you transfer funds to more ‘secure’ or ‘special’ accounts, allegedly to prevent fraud and financial losses, we strongly advise citizens not to take any action, refrain from disclosing personal or banking information to anyone, and to promptly reach out to your bank,” the regulator stressed.-0-
