A story of people, goals, and trust: Acba Bank’s 30-year journey (VIDEO)

YEREVAN, October 8. /ARKA/. Thirty years ago, a group of young people with a bold vision and rather limited resources launched an enterprise whose future scale was difficult to imagine.

They rented just two offices at 13A Vardanants Street, equipped with a single computer, a printer, a few chairs, and a desk. Yet, for these young people driven by big ideas and self-confidence this was enough to begin the success story of one of Armenia’s leading banking institutions. Thus began the journey of ACBA Bank.

In the mid-1990s, a time when newly independent Armenia faced significant economic challenges across all sectors, the bank secured 2 million ECU in funding through the European Union’s TACIS program to establish its initial capital.

From that point on, the bank’s young team began working with rural communities, creating a banking model rooted in mutual assistance.

Over the years, ACBA expanded beyond agriculture to finance various sectors of the economy, thereby contributing to Armenia’s development.

Trust has always been the cornerstone of ACBA’s journey trust among employees, clients, partners, and shareholders alike.

This trust paved the way for pivotal collaborations ranging from the French banking group Crédit Agricole to the leading European asset manager Amundi that were instrumental to ACBA’s growth.

Over three decades, ACBA has evolved: the bank has grown in scale, technologies and services have advanced, and client needs have shifted. Today, ACBA has grown from a small team into a workforce of approximately 1,900 people; its “acba digital” system serves over 750,000 users, and nearly 90% of client transactions are conducted via the bank’s digital channels.

Alongside this growth, ACBA continuously invests in the development of Armenia’s communities, education, culture, and environment. Acba is about the people who started out with just two rooms 30 years ago, those who joined them along the way, and those who are continuing this story today.

Thirty years later, Acba’s story continues to take shape based on the same foundations: vision, team, and trust.

The Bank is supervised by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia.
