IMF finds six percent deficit-to-GDP ratio planned in Armenia’s 2010 state budget realistic

YEREVAN, February 18. /ARKA/. The six percent deficit-to-GDP ratio planned in Armenia’s 2010 state budget is quite realistic, Mark Lewis, the head of International Monetary Fund’s mission in Armenia, said Wednesday at a news conference.

He said that this indicator would slip from 7.5% in 2009 to 6% this year.

After precipitous decline in 2009, he said, the state revenue starts growing as state expenses remain unchanged.

The authorities intend to pursue recovery policy in 2010 and regulate possible demand pressures, Lewis said.

Tax and budget policy, he said, will continue supporting the economy and implementation of top-priority programs.

State revenue is planned at AMD 742 billion and expenditure AMD 193.4 billion in the 2010 state budget. ($1 = AMD 381.34). —0—
