Asatryan: Economic Growth in Armenia Expected To Reach 4 Or 5% In 2010

YEREVAN, June 7. /ARKA/. Bagrat Asatryan, former chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia, thinks economic growth in Armenia will reach 4 to 5% in 2010.

He told ARKA News Agency that the seven-percent year-on-year growth reported by National Statistical Service of Armenia in Jan-Apr can ensure four-to-five-percent annual GDP growth this year.

Asatryan excluded agriculture from the sectors insuring this growth, since thought that official figures were overstated here.

The former chairman of the central bank said 12.9% industrial growth over four months of this year was fueled mainly by mining industry thanks to rise in world copper prices.

“I don’t know whether this growth will remain or not later this year,” Asatryan said. –0—
