Lebanese banks negotiating acquisition of one of Armenian bank’s stakes

YEREVAN, December 7. /ARKA/. Lebanese banks are negotiating over acquisition of one of Armenian bank’s stakes, Dr. Francois Bassil, chairman of the council of Byblos Bank Group and Byblos Bank Armenia CJSC, said at a news conference on Tuesday.

There are Lebanese investments in Anelik Bank and negotiations with another bank are under way now,” he said.

Bassil didn’t rule out probability of a merger of Byblos Bank Armenia with another bank.

“We have five banks in Lebanon – three foreign and two Lebanese,” he said.

Alan Tomen, member of Byblos Bank Group’s board, added that this bank “should comply with our corporate bank culture”.

In October 2007, Lebanese “Byblos Bank” SAL became the holder of 65% shares of Byblos Bank Armenia.

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development holds 25%, and the remaining 10% belong to OPEC International Development Fund.-0–
