Environmetal essay contest winners receive prizes from HSBC Bank Armenia

YEREVAN, December 14. /ARKA/. Three of 20 winners of the competition of school essays on environment protection have received money prizes from HSBC Bank Armenia, Arthur Khoyetsyan, head of public affairs division of World Wildlife Fund’s resident office in Armenia, told journalists on Wednesday.

Environment protection program involving Armenian teenagers initiated though financial support of HSBC Bank Armenia CJSC and participation of WWF Armenia, Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment NGO was launched in February 2011. The competition of essays was held as part of this program.

The program financing amounted to $30,000. Every winner received $1,500.

Khoyetsyan said that the aim of this competition was to put the objectives spotlighted in essays into practice.

This environment-protection campaign will be run with participation of HSBC Bank Armenia CJSC’s employees who have attended seminars focused on protection of environment.

“The ideas expressed in these three best essays will be put in the reality before the next year’s June,” Khoyetsyan said.

He said that the program is aimed at enhancing young people’s awareness of environmental problems. It consists of two stages.

“At the first stage, a manual based on the principle of careful treatment of our planet was worked out and published,” he said.

At the second stage, he said, a series of seminars were held. Some 60 teachers and 200 school students from 35 secondary schools in Shirak, Tavush, Vayots Dzor, Lori and Syunik provinces attended them.

HSBC Bank Armenia, a member of HSBC Bank plc, was registered on September 25, 1995. HSBC Europe BV holding company holds 70% of the bank’s shares, and the remaining 30% belong to Wings Establishment. In late January 2009, HSBC Bank Armenia joined NASDAQ OMX Armenia Stock Exchange. -0-
