Yerevan to participate in Eurasian Development Bank’s environmental patrol

YEREVAN, September 3. /ARKA/. Armenia’s capital city will join several CIS capitals for an environmental patrol conducted by the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), scheduled this year for September 5, EDB said in a press release. According to it, the first time this event was organized by the EDB in 2011 August in Kazakhstan.

“This year’s event will be held in seven cities across the CIS member states – in Almaty, Astana, Dushanbe, Yerevan, Minsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg. The participants will be collecting garbage from a prominent sightseeing place,” the press release said.

The aim of the event is to promote protection of unique natural and cultural heritage of member states, and help raise the public’s awareness about its responsibility for the conservation of the environment.

“Participants will be driven to the areas and provided with the necessary equipment (gloves, bags, etc.).” it said.

The EDB’s initiative group has compiled a list of locations around the cities that are in dire need of clean-up. After exploring all the options, the most polluted areas were chosen. In Yerevan it is the Hrazdan Gorge. -0-
