Remittances to Armenia in May upped 6.5% to $140.5 mln

YEREVAN, July 13./ARKA/. The amount of private remittances sent to Armenia in May 2013 via banks for non-commercial purposes increased by 6.5 percent from 2012 May  to $140.49 million, the Central Bank said in a statement posted on its official website.

The amount of remittances in May is said to be 6.9 % higher from April.

In the same time span the amount of money transfers made from Armenia to other countries hit $25.2 million in May 2013 versus $25.6 million  from a year earlier. The net amount of remittances to Armenia in May  this year stood at  nearly $115.27 million against about $106.1 million.

As usual, the largest portion of remittances from abroad came from Russia – nearly 84.5%. Total of about $118.7 million was transferred from Russia to Armenia in May 2013 versus 110.3 million, while  $14.7  million was transferred from Armenia to Russia (versus $15.2 million).

According to Central Bank data, a total of $577.39 million was remitted to Armenia in the first five months of this year, while the amount of remittances from Armenia to other countries stood at $124.5  million (13.7% growth). ($1 – 409.78 drams). -0 –
