Total assets of Armenian Central Bank drop by 10.5% in first quarter

YEREVAN, May 27. /ARKA/. Total assets of Armenia’s Central Bank in the first quarter of 2014 dropped by 148.4 billion drams or 10.5% from the beginning of the year to over 1,266.3 billion drams, the press office of the Central Bank reported.

Assets in foreign currency accounted for 69% of total assets, up from 68.6% as of the end of 2013. The total foreign currency assets were equivalent of about 873.4 billion drams, having reduced by 97.6 billion drams or about 10% from the beginning of the year.

Assets in foreign currency placed in banks and other financial institutions in the reporting period amounted to about 237 billion drams, a decrease of 20.5%, while foreign currency assets placed with IMF rose to about 59 billion drams from 58.2 billion drams at the end of 2013.

The amount of foreign currency set for sale remained unchanged – at about 1.6 billion drams, while foreign currency assets kept until maturity slashed by 12.25% to about 103.8 billion drams as of the end of March.

The amount of foreign currency invested in financial instruments, as well as revenues and losses from revaluations amounted to 468.3 billion drams from 490.7 billion drams at the end of 2013.

The amount of cash flow from operations in foreign currencies fell by 9.4% from the beginning of the year to over 5 billion drams as of March 31. Other assets of the Central Bank in foreign currency were about 250.7 million drams, compared to 124.9 million drams.

Assets in the national currency at the end of the fourth quarter amounted to about 393 billion drams, an increase of 11.45% percent if compared with the beginning of the year.

Central Bank’s investments in dram assets available for sale grew by 4.45% to about 165.6 billion drams. The amount of fixed assets in drams dropped by 1% to about 69.2 billion drams and intangible assets decreased by 2.6% to 1,087.2 million drams. Other assets of the Central Bank in drams rose by almost 3.4% to 9.2 billion drams by the end of the first quarter. ($ 1=413.36drams). –0–
