CB Chairman expects EBRD to continue its support to introduction of financial sector development instruments in Armenia

YEREVAN, July 7. / ARKA /. Armenian Central Bank (CB) Chairman Arthur Javadyan said July 4 that the regulator expects the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to continue its support to introduction of financial sector and economy development instruments in Armenia during a meeting with EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Francis Malige.

Javadyan was quoted by CB press office as praising the results of long-term cooperation with the EBRD, stressing the latter’s important contribution to promoting stable economic development of Armenia through investments in the real economy, particularly in agriculture, energy, transport, municipal and environmental infrastructures, communications, as well as in the financial sector.

In turn, Malige expressed readiness to deepen further cooperation with Armenia. He singled out Armenia’s progress in the financial sector and welcomed the efforts of the Central Bank aimed at the development of this sector and ensuring financial stability.

Malge was said also to have presented the strategy and priorities of EBRD’s cooperation with Armenia.

EBRD has been working with Armenia since the latter’s acquisition of independence. As of September 2013, its investments in Armenia stood at more than 656 million euros. -0-
