Armenia’s national currency hits new record low today

YEREVAN, December 16. /ARKA/.Armenia’s national currency, the dram, has hit a new low today falling by 18.56 points from December 15 to 490.34 drams per one US Dollar, according to the Central Bank.

The official exchange rate of the euro jumped by 28.25 points to 614.20 drams, updating the 9-year high.

The NASDAQ OMX Armenia stock exchange’s official website has no information about whether any transaction was effected today.

The Central Bank sold today the fixed amount of $4 million to local banks through an auction at the average weighted exchange rate of 526.32 drams per one US Dollar.

The regulator began selling fixed amount of hard currency to local banks through auctions from December 8 in order to stabilize the local financial market. The regulator said also daily currency sales would be gradually lowered in the following weeks. -0-
