New composite Armenian banknotes to appear in late November

YEREVAN, October 1. /ARKA/. New Armenian composite banknotes will be put into circulation before the end of the year, the chairman of the Central Bank Artur Javadyan told reporters the day before. According to him, the new banknotes will be put into circulation on November 22, when the Central Bank will mark the 25th anniversary of the national currency – dram.

He said the regulator will work to put into circulation the entire series of the new banknotes before the end of the year, however, but if it does manage to do so, part of the banknotes will appear in 2019.

The Central Bank of Armenia announced the transition to new composite banknotes of the third generation in 2017 July. The banknotes now in use will be gradually replaced by new generation banknotes. Also a banknote with a face value of AMD 2,000 will be put into circulation, while banknotes with face value of 100,000 AMD will not be issued because of low demand.

In 2017 November Armenia’s Central Bank unveiled hybrid banknotes “Noah’s Ark” with a face value of 500 drams. It is printed on high-quality Hybrid ™ composite material, covered on both sides with cotton paper and protected by a thin layer of polyester. The banknote has a multi-colored Noyan Tapan (Noah’s Ark) watermark, as well as a face value watermark.

The new Armenian banknotes will be printed by the German Giesecke & Devrient ($ 1 – 482.71 drams).
