YEREVAN, November 21. /ARKA/. A concert of Djivan Gasparyan, a prominent Armenian musician and composer, who turned 90 this year, will take place in Yerevan on November 26 under support from Unibank and on the initiative of the Armenian culture ministry, the bank’s press office reported on Wednesday.

The concert of Djivan Gasparyan, who plays the duduk, a double reed woodwind instrument related to the orchestral oboe, will be given in the Yerevan Opera House.

Hasmik Papian, Arto Tunçboyacıyan, Artyom Manukyan (the Unjited States), Gevorg Hakobyan, Armen Babakhanyan, Anna Mailyan, Edgar Khachatryan, Djivan Gasparyan junior and other Armenian musicians will congratulate Djivan Gasparyan.

«Djivan Gasparyan has become a live legend for the Armenian people long ago,» Mesrop Hakobyan, the chairman of Unibank’s board, is quoted in the bank’s press release. «We support his projects with pleasure, and they are not only concerts.»

Hakobyan said that a free duduk school is being built in Yerevan at Djivan Gasparyan’s initiative for socially unsecured children, and Unibank is supporting the construction.

The school attendees will take singing and dancing classes here and will become familiar with the world’s musical legacy.

And the most important is that they will take duduk-playing classes in this school.
«Our bank considers it its duty to support the construction of the school, and the support of the anniversary concert is the recognition of the invaluable contribution of Djivan Gasparyan to Armenia’s culture,» Hakobyan added.

Djivan Gasparyan, in return, expressed high appreciation of the culture ministry and Unibank’s support.

«I glad that the bank has supported the initiative of construction of a school for young duduk players,» he said. «Music is our people’s sole, history and future.»
