IMF considering room for implementation of preventive financing program in Armenia

YEREVAN, February 27. /ARKA/. The International Monetary Fund has discussed with the Armenian government a preventive financing program, Head of the IMF Mission in Armenia Hossein Samiei said Tuesday at a news conference in Yerevan.

There is no need now to provide financing, but in accordance with the arrangements fixed in this program, financial resources may be provided to the government, if necessary.

Hossein Samiei said that the first aim of the program is to provide an insurance instrument against outside economic shocks.

As the second aim he pointed out support for the government’s efforts to ensure economic growth and root out corruption.

The IMF representative said that an arrangement has been made by the administrations, and it will be presented to the IMF board for approval. -0—
