Government to assist citizens in purchasing medicines within the framework of medical insurance system – Pashinyan

YEREVAN, November 24. /ARKA/. Armenian authorities are considering the possibility of assisting citizens in purchasing medicines within the framework of the medical insurance system, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said, answering the questions of Armenian residents and representatives of the Diaspora online.

Pashinyan said at the first stage of introduction of the compulsory health insurance system, the most vulnerable segments of the population will benefit at the expense of the state budget.

‘We have envisaged mechanisms for insured citizens to  have a certain flexibility in purchasing their preferred medicines,” he said, answering a question of an Armenian resident about whether there is an opportunity to receive necessary medicines from the state free of charge.

Pashinyan explained that persons in need of medication are not planned to be given specific medicines, but will be provided with certain monetary assistance.

“A monetary fund will be envisioned, with the means of which citizens will be able to purchase the medicines they need,” he said.

The prime minister also noted that the list of medicines that the state will provide to citizens, including patients, will be expanded.  -0-
