The problem of high inflation in Armenia can be considered solved at the moment – Central Bank Governor

YEREVAN, December 29. /ARKA/. The low inflation rate we have had for a long period of time allows us to say that the problem of high inflation has been solved at the moment, Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia Martin Galstyan said.

“As a result, in the second half of this year, the Central Bank launched a policy of monetary easing to bring inflation closer to the target level of 4% in the medium term. At the same time, uncertainties and risks regarding inflation expectations remain among the population, and we take this into account when making decisions,” he said, speaking at the traditional New Year’s reception.

The head of the regulator assessed 2023 as a year of significant progress in economic terms.

“Thanks to our joint efforts in previous years, we have low inflation and strengthening financial stability and high economic growth,” he said.

Galstyan said after two years of high inflationary environment, the central bank has ensured low inflation with minimal costs for the economy in 2023, as evidenced by the combination of high economic growth and low inflation.

“From this point of view, we consider the Central Bank’s monetary policy prudent and forward-looking,” he said -0-
