Central Bank of Armenia warns of a new type of fraud with CMTPL insurance

YEREVAN, February 18. /ARKA/. The Central Bank of Armenia warns motorists against a new type of fraud, saying in a statement that after looking into a set of reports and notifications of citizens, it has been found that recently there has been an increase in cases when unknown persons present themselves as employees of insurance companies and offer to conclude compulsory motor third-party liability insurance  (CMTPL) contracts remotely.

“As a result, citizens are fraudulently extorted money without concluding a contract. In some cases, fraudsters provide consumers with fake contracts or contracts that are concluded for a shorter period than promised,” the regulator said.

The Central Bank urged motorists to be vigilant and use the services of only insurance companies and insurance agents licensed by the Central Bank.

It also said that it is possible to safely conclude CMTPL contracts online through the official websites of insurance companies licensed by the Central Bank, mobile banking applications, as well as the online system “Single Window of Motor Vehicles of Armenian Insurance Companies” by visiting aswa.am.-0-.
