Central Bank of Armenia: Cybersecurity standards in banks comparable to global ones

YEREVAN, October 22. /ARKA/. The Central Bank of Armenia’s cybersecurity standards are on par with those of developed central banks worldwide and has been successfully implementing international security standards for nearly two decades.

“Back in 2007, the Central Bank of Armenia implemented the ISO 27001 international information security standard. We successfully pass an external audit every year,” Komitas Stepanyan, head of the Central Bank’s IT and Cybersecurity Directorate, told Novosti-Armenia.

He stated that since 2012, this standard has become a mandatory requirement for banks and credit institutions in the country. As a regulator, the Central Bank inspects their activities, warns of violations, and can fine or even revoke their licenses.
Stepanyan emphasized that the Central Bank is extremely demanding of banks when it comes to cybersecurity. The Armenian banking system provides modern services and develops technologies.

“I can say with confidence that Armenia has a secure and reliable banking system,” said a representative of the regulator.-0-
