Deposits in Armenian national currency contract by 5.2% in January 2011

YEREVAN, March 14, /ARKA/. The volume of deposits in Armenian commercial banks in the national currency, the Dram, contracted by 5.2% in January 2011 from the previous month to 201.8 billion Drams, according to a Central Bank of Armenia report on money and credit indicators.

According to the report, time deposits made 44% or 88.8 billion Drams of all deposits. They were said to have grown by 4.8% from December. Call deposits in Drams dropped by 11.8% to 56% of all deposits or to 113 billion Drams. In the meantime deposits in foreign currency rose by 2.3% in 2011 January from 2010 December to 391.2 billion Drams. ($1 – 367. 85 Drams). -0-
